| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of John Raymond Peters of Pekin, who |
| 4 | | passed away on March 7, 2024; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Peters was born to Max and Mildred Josephine |
| 6 | | (Sutton) Peters in Bloomington on February 27, 1940; he |
| 7 | | married Sandra Marie "Sandy" Oedewaldt in Springfield on |
| 8 | | September 22, 1962; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, John Peters worked for Keystone Steel & Wire for |
| 10 | | 44 years before retiring in 2003; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, John Peters served as union president of |
| 12 | | Independent Steel Workers Alliance for 20 years; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, John Peters was a member of Elks Lodge #20 in |
| 14 | | Peoria, the American Legion in Bartonville, and the Knights of |
| 15 | | Columbus in Peoria; he attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in |
| 16 | | Pekin; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, John Peters enjoyed spending time with family, |
| 18 | | golfing, and traveling annually to Fort Myers, Florida and |
| 19 | | Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; he also enjoyed gardening in his |
| 20 | | yard; he was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Los |
