| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Zachary A. "Zack" Defreitas of |
| 4 | | Springfield, who passed away on March 17, 2023; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Zack Defreitas was born to John Charles and |
| 6 | | Michelle Lynn Richards Defreitas in Peoria on October 2, 1992; |
| 7 | | he moved with his family to Springfield in the mid-1990s; he |
| 8 | | played youth hockey with the Springfield Kings, the Peoria Jr. |
| 9 | | Rivermen, and the Pekin Dragons before embarking on a junior |
| 10 | | hockey run with the Danville Inferno and Peoria Mustangs; he |
| 11 | | graduated from Springfield High School in 2010; he earned his |
| 12 | | bachelor's degree in Mass Communications and Media Arts from |
| 13 | | Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in May 2016; he |
| 14 | | married Erica Davis at Washington Park in Springfield on April |
| 15 | | 23, 2022; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Zack Defreitas was employed as Director of |
| 17 | | Marketing and Communications for the Springfield Jr. Blues, |
| 18 | | where he worked since 2018; he also served as the play-by-play |
| 19 | | announcer for the Springfield Jr. Blues and became popular |
| 20 | | with the team's fan base; he formerly served as the |
| 21 | | broadcaster for the Springfield Sliders baseball team in the |
| 22 | | summer of 2021; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Zack Defreitas had an undying passion for hockey, |
| 2 | | with his favorite team being the St. Louis Blues; he enjoyed |
| 3 | | taking long drives, watching WWE and old movies, traveling, |
| 4 | | listening to music, and researching historical events; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Zack Defreitas was preceded in death by his |
| 6 | | maternal grandfather, Denny Richards; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Zack Defreitas is survived by his wife, Erica |
| 8 | | Defreitas; his father, John Defreitas; mother, Michelle |
| 9 | | (husband, Jesse) Defreitas; his brothers, Nicholas Defreitas |
| 10 | | and Bradley (fiancé, Samantha) Defreitas; his maternal |
| 11 | | grandmother, Marie Richards; his paternal grandmother, Joanne |
| 12 | | Defreitas; his paternal grandfather, Charles Defreitas; his |
| 13 | | several professional friendships, including Tyler Rennette, |
| 14 | | Todd Pococke, and Dan Ferguson; and his many friends who |
| 15 | | became family; therefore, be it

| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
| 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 18 | | Zachary A. "Zack" Defreitas and extend our sincere condolences |
| 19 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
