HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Spencer Leak Jr. on the 
4occasion of his 55th birthday; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mr. Leak is the vice president of Leak and Sons 
6Funeral Homes; he has worked for his family's business, which 
7has locations in Chicago and the south suburbs of Chicago, 
8since he was a young boy; he holds a Bachelor of Science in 
9Mortuary Science and Funeral Service from Southern Illinois 
10University Carbondale and has been a licensed funeral director 
11since 1989; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mr. Leak, as a third-generation business owner, 
13has added his own mark to the 91-year-old business through 
14advancements in Leak and Sons Funeral Homes' technology and 
15operational efficiency; further, he is responsible for 
16managing over 3,000 funerals in the Chicagoland area each 
17year; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Mr. Leak is known for his generosity of spirit 
19and consistently gives back to his community in a variety of 
20ways; he is a member of 100 Black Men, serving as a mentor to 
21young African American males, and he has also served on the 
22boards of directors of Operation PUSH and the Better Boys

1Foundation, the latter of which provides after-school and 
2tutoring services for young people in need; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mr. Leak is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi 
4Fraternity, Inc., Liberty Baptist Church, and the Illinois 
5Funeral Directors Association; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mr. Leak has been recognized in a multitude of 
7ways, including being named in Who's Who of Black Chicago and 
8receiving the Men of Excellence Award by the Chicago Defender; 
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mr. Leak is married to Dr. Donna Leak, and they 
11have two children, Spencer Leak III and Emma Sophia Leak; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mr. Leak will celebrate his 55th birthday with an 
13event on November 30, 2024; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
15HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
16we congratulate Spencer Leak Jr. on celebrating his 55th 
17birthday, and we wish him many more happy and healthy years; 
18and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20presented to Mr. Leak as an expression of our esteem and
