HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Across the United States, National Crochet Month 
3is celebrated every year; and
 
4    WHEREAS, It is unclear how crocheting traveled to the 
5Americas, but the first documented instances of such knitting 
6come from the Guiana Indians tribe and settlements; and
 
7    WHEREAS, As far as appreciation of crochet is concerned, 
8the Crochet Guild of America (C.G.O.A.) was formed in the 
9United States in 1995, and March has been recognized as 
10National Crochet Month since 2005; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Some people crochet just for fun, and some make 
12it their source of income; crocheting is a healthy activity 
13that relieves stress and anxiety; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Although many people believe crocheting is a 
15women's hobby, a number of men crochet, including Snoop Dogg, 
16Ryan Reynolds, Rosey Grier, Christopher Walken, Donald Glover, 
17and Gold Medalist Tom Daley; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Representative Diane Blair-Sherlock's district 
19office has established a co-ed knitting and crochet group 
20called Unraveled that meets three times a month to crochet

1scarves, hats, and mittens for those in need; together, the 
2group has donated over 600 handmade items to Dupage Pads, the 
3Outreach House, the Illinois Community for Displaced 
4Immigrants, the Islamic Circle of North America, and the 
5Dupage Health Coalition; the evening Unraveled event became so 
6popular that a daytime Unraveled group was added for those who 
7preferred to come during the daylight hours; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
9HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
10we declare March of 2024 as Crochet Month in the State of 
11Illinois; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That we recognize the Unraveled crochet group 
13for their contributions to their community.
