HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Mu Alpha Lambda 
4Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. on the occasion of 
5the 20th anniversary of its Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 
6Scholarship initiative; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter, also known as the 
8alumni chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at Northern 
9Illinois University, was chartered by nine former members of 
10the Epsilon Phi Chapter on February 7, 1975; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Through its Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 
12Scholarship initiative, the Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter has 
13uplifted young people and celebrated Alpha Phi Alpha member 
14Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for the past 20 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Throughout the last two decades, the Mu Alpha 
16Lambda Chapter has demonstrated resilience, ingenuity, and a 
17steadfast commitment to progress; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter has mentored over 150 
19young men from the Rockford region and donated over $325,000 
20in scholarships to support young men of color attending 
21college or university; and

1    WHEREAS, The Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter has thrived while its 
2character has been shaped by the collective efforts of its 
3organization and members; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter celebrated the 20th 
5anniversary of its Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship 
6initiative on January 13, 2024; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
8HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
9we congratulate the Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha 
10Fraternity, Inc. on the 20th anniversary of its Dr. Martin 
11Luther King Jr. Scholarship initiative; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That we commend the members of the Mu Alpha 
13Lambda Chapter for their continuous commitment to our youth 
14and their contributions to the success and prosperity of our 
15great State; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to the Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter as an expression of 
18our esteem and respect.
