HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Clarence Johnson for his years of service as an officer of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and his commitment to its ideals of brotherhood, scholarship, and service; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Johnson was born in Chicago and attended Loyola University, where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees and embarked on a career as a teacher; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Johnson served locally as president of the Iota Alpha Chapter from 1959 to 1961, as state director for Illinois from 1971 to 1974, as vice president of the Upsilon Sigma Chapter in 1976, and as president of the Upsilon Sigma Chapter from 1995 to 1999; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Johnson served as director of the Great Lakes Region from 1974 to 1980 while also serving as regional director of collegiate affairs from 1974 to 1977, as regional director from 1977 to 1980, and as a regional parliamentarian from 2000 to 2001; during his tenure, he helped charter more than 60 chapters; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Johnson served as national director of collegiate affairs from 1980 to 1981 and as a trustee on the Phi Beta Sigma's National Real Estate Commission from 1997 to 2001; he was inducted into the Distinguished Service Chapter in 1997 in recognition of his service to the communities served by Phi Beta Sigma; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Clarence Johnson for exemplifying the ideals of brotherhood, scholarship, and service through his years of dedication to strengthening Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and the communities its members serve; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Clarence Johnson as an expression of our esteem and respect.
