| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of James Francis "Jim" Flynn of West |
| 4 | | Peoria, who passed away on September 1, 2022; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Flynn was born to James Leo and Anna C. Neylon |
| 6 | | Flynn in Peoria on July 6, 1934; he graduated from St. |
| 7 | | Cecelia's Catholic School in 1948 and Spalding Institute in |
| 8 | | 1952; he served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1953 to 1961; |
| 9 | | he married Patricia "Trish" Brophy at St. Patrick's Catholic |
| 10 | | Church in Peoria on June 2, 1962, and they raised their family |
| 11 | | in West Peoria; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Jim Flynn joined the Plumbers Union Local 63 in |
| 13 | | 1953 and was a union member for 69 years, holding the offices |
| 14 | | of president, assistant business manager, and business manager |
| 15 | | when he retired in 1993; he also served as the vice president |
| 16 | | of the Illinois Pipe Trades Association and president of |
| 17 | | District Council 34 until he retired; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Jim Flynn served as an alderman for the City of |
| 19 | | West Peoria and as a township trustee of West Peoria Township |
| 20 | | for many years; he was named grand marshal of the West Peoria |
| 21 | | 4th of July Parade in 2016; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Jim Flynn was proud of his Irish heritage and |
| 2 | | belonged to the St. Patrick's Society of Peoria, the Friends |
| 3 | | of Clonmel, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, where he |
| 4 | | chaired many committees and served as vice president for a |
| 5 | | term; he was awarded Hibernian of the Year in 1997; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Jim Flynn was determined to help his |
| 7 | | grandchildren live their best lives and worked hard to raise |
| 8 | | funds for and increase awareness of the disease Cystic |
| 9 | | Fibrosis; he co-founded the Flynn Foundation for Cystic |
| 10 | | Fibrosis and was involved in countless fundraising efforts of |
| 11 | | the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Peoria; for his efforts, he |
| 12 | | received the Richard Lee Award, the Breath of Life Award in |
| 13 | | 2011, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Volunteer of the Year |
| 14 | | Award in 2012; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Jim Flynn was a member of St. Mark's Catholic |
| 16 | | Church and a past member of the Spalding Council Knights of |
| 17 | | Columbus; his favorite sports teams were the Chicago Cubs, the |
| 18 | | Chicago Bears, the University of Notre Dame football team, and |
| 19 | | any team on which his grandchildren played; he enjoyed |
| 20 | | watching birds and squirrels and loved his little dog, Sparky; |
| 21 | | and
|
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Jim Flynn was preceded in death by his parents; |
| 23 | | his sister, Marikaye; his brothers-in-law, Scotty Maas, |

| 1 | | Marshall Hopping Jr., Merv Haycock, Jack Kocher, Jim Casey, |
| 2 | | John Brophy, and Bill Brophy; his sisters-in-law, Sister |
| 3 | | Madeliene Marie Brophy and Jean Ann Brophy; and his grandson, |
| 4 | | Will Flynn; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Flynn is survived by his wife, Trish; his |
| 6 | | children, Bridget (Vince) Kemper, Maureen (Bill) Birdoes, |
| 7 | | Margaret "Peggy" (Tom) Dwyer, Timothy (Katy) Flynn, and James |
| 8 | | (Tricia Fox) Flynn; his 19 grandchildren; his four |
| 9 | | step-grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren; his sister, |
| 10 | | Carol Hopping; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins; |
| 11 | | therefore, be it

| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
| 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 14 | | James Francis "Jim" Flynn and extend our sincere condolences |
| 15 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
| 16 | | it further
|
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 18 | | presented to the family of Jim Flynn as an expression of our |
| 19 | | deepest sympathy.
|
