| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of John J. Malone Sr., who passed away on |
| 4 | | January 27, 2022; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Malone was born to Irish immigrants on |
| 6 | | Chicago's Old West Side in the St. Mel-Holy Ghost Parish of the |
| 7 | | West Garfield Park area on July 7, 1930; he graduated from the |
| 8 | | parish elementary school; he studied at St. Mel High School on |
| 9 | | an academic scholarship, where he was a member of the boxing |
| 10 | | team for four years and co-captain in his senior year; during |
| 11 | | his college years, he was a welterweight (145 lbs.) boxing |
| 12 | | champion in the Chicago Golden Gloves in 1951; he studied at |
| 13 | | Wilbur Wright Jr. College of Chicago; he earned his Bachelor |
| 14 | | of Science in Psychology from Loyola University of Chicago; he |
| 15 | | served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1961, where he served as a |
| 16 | | psychology assistant and earned the rank of specialist 5th |
| 17 | | class (SP5), known as sergeant today; he was lifetime |
| 18 | | Chicagoan; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, John Malone was a member and past commander of |
| 20 | | the Gladstone Park Post American Legion; he was a 4th degree |
| 21 | | member and past grand knight of Addison Council #650 in |
| 22 | | Hilderbrand of the Knights of Columbus since 1950; and
