SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 
3to learn of the death of John J. Malone Sr., who passed away on 
4January 27, 2022; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, John Malone was born to Irish immigrants on 
6Chicago's Old West Side in the St. Mel-Holy Ghost Parish of the 
7West Garfield Park area on July 7, 1930; he graduated from the 
8parish elementary school; he studied at St. Mel High School on 
9an academic scholarship, where he was a member of the boxing 
10team for four years and co-captain in his senior year; during 
11his college years, he was a welterweight (145 lbs.) boxing 
12champion in the Chicago Golden Gloves in 1951; he studied at 
13Wilbur Wright Jr. College of Chicago; he earned his Bachelor 
14of Science in Psychology from Loyola University of Chicago; he 
15served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1961, where he served as a 
16psychology assistant and earned the rank of specialist 5th 
17class (SP5), known as sergeant today; he was lifetime 
18Chicagoan; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, John Malone was a member and past commander of 
20the Gladstone Park Post American Legion; he was a 4th degree 
21member and past grand knight of Addison Council #650 in 
22Hilderbrand of the Knights of Columbus since 1950; and

1    WHEREAS, John Malone was the husband of the late Maureen 
2(Heafey) for 46 years; he was the father of John J. Jr., 
3Michael P., Brian H., and Maura A. (the late Kevin); he was the 
4grandfather of Megan (Dan) Bacos, Callie (Brandon) Zurek, Kate 
5Lynn, Shannon Noelle, Liam Patrick, Mary Catherine, Sean, 
6Ronan, and Emmett Barron; he was the great-grandfather of 
7Cameron and Lily; he was the brother-in-law of Ana Mae Malone 
8(late Patrick C.) and John J. (Katherine) Heafey; he was the 
9relative of Dr. Nicholas Burriesci (the late Eleanor); he was 
10the uncle to many; and he was the cousin of over 20 residing in 
11Ireland and England; therefore, be it
  
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL 
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
14John J. Malone Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his 
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
16further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to the family of John Malone as an expression of our 
19deepest sympathy.
