| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Bernard "Bernie" |
| 4 | | Goulet Sr. (Ret.) of Springfield, who passed away on November |
| 5 | | 16, 2021; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Goulet was born to Joseph and Clara (Neef) |
| 7 | | Goulet in Springfield on April 22, 1931; he served in the U.S. |
| 8 | | Army during the Korean War, where he survived the Chosin |
| 9 | | Reservoir and earned a Bronze Star for Heroism in Ground |
| 10 | | Combat, the Purple Heart, the Legion of Merit, the Combat |
| 11 | | Infantry Badge, and the U.N. Korean Service Medal; he married |
| 12 | | Barbara Geary in 1956, and they celebrated 53 years of |
| 13 | | marriage before she preceded him in death in 2010; he earned |
| 14 | | his master's degree in Business from Sangamon State |
| 15 | | University, which is now the University of Illinois |
| 16 | | Springfield; he graduated from the U.S. Army Command and |
| 17 | | General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Goulet worked at the U.S. Post Office and |
| 19 | | the Springfield Army Reserve, where he retired as a lieutenant |
| 20 | | colonel; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Goulet was a member of the Christ the King |
| 22 | | Parish, American Legion Post 32, Disabled American Veterans |
|

| 1 | | (D.A.V.), and the Retired Officers Association; he enjoyed |
| 2 | | music thoroughly, singing in the church choir, the Muni, Mob |
| 3 | | on the Road, and Mature Mob until his late 80s; he was an avid |
| 4 | | gardener and a voracious reader; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Goulet was a wise, loving, and honorable |
| 6 | | man; he was a true patriarch to his family; he will be missed; |
| 7 | | and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Goulet was preceded in death by his first |
| 9 | | wife, two brothers, and four sisters; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Goulet is survived by his wife, Velma Neal |
| 11 | | Goulet; his sons, Bernie (Karen) Goulet Jr. and Matt (Tamara) |
| 12 | | Goulet; his daughters, Ellen (Steve) Siadek and Diane (Wes) |
| 13 | | Fisher; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, |
| 14 | | nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
| 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 17 | | Lieutenant Colonel Bernard "Bernie" Goulet Sr. and extend our |
| 18 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
| 19 | | and loved him; and be it further
