SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James H. "Jim" Brown of Milan, who passed away on March 14, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Jim Brown was born in Moline to Harry and Alice (Hoogerwerf) Brown on June 16, 1930; he graduated from Reynolds High School in 1947; he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Snowden; he married Peggy Jo Irwin on March 1, 1952; and

WHEREAS, Jim Brown retired as director of Emergency Communications from the Illinois State Police in 1990 after 32 years of service; he was also the owner of 2-Way Marine Radio in Milan; and

WHEREAS, Jim Brown loved being on the water and cruising aboard the Seahorse alongside his wife, and they enjoyed cruising the Mississippi River from Rock Island to the Florida Keys for 18 years; he was especially happy and proud when spending time together with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Jim Brown was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Tom; and his grandson, Tom Brown; and

WHEREAS, Jim Brown is survived by his wife of 69 years, Peggy; his children, Michael (Teresa), Randy, Sheri (Jim Brokaw), and Tamara (Dennis Kellner); his grandchildren, Dr. Rhonda (Chad) Sowards, Matt Brown, Scott (Brooke) Zeitler, Jamie (Phil) Ledbetter, Drew (Jessie) Zeitler, Tony (Sarah) Brown, and Kendell (Lucas) DeWitt; and his great-grandchildren, Trace, Ava, Claire, Thomas, Randi Jo, Owen, Alice, Bennett, Maverick, Madelyn, Lane, Isabella, Rhett, and Baby girl DeWitt; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James H. "Jim" Brown and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jim Brown as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
