HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Cleve Klopfenstein, who passed away on July 23, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Cleve Klopfenstein was born to Ralph and Catherine (Slagell) Klopfenstein on May 19, 1947; he graduated from Gridley High School and Illinois State University; he served in the U.S. Army, where he received basic training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas before serving in Vietnam; he married Kathleen Steffen in Fairbury on August 13, 1972; and

WHEREAS, Cleve Klopfenstein began his career as a high school teacher at Peoria Central High School before working in commodities trading at Heinold Commodities; he returned to teaching at the Peoria Alternative High School, retiring in 2005; over the course of his career, he made significant contributions to the growth and development of countless students; and

WHEREAS, Cleve Klopfenstein was deeply committed to his faith and a long-time, active member of his local church; he had a willing heart for serving his community, Christian ministry organizations, and his church; and

WHEREAS, Cleve Klopfenstein had a contagious enthusiasm for life and enjoyed many hobbies, including hosting friends and family at his beloved lake cabin, fishing, photography, documenting memories, traveling, antique cars and scooters, arrowhead hunting, and telling stories and jokes; his three grandsons were his pride and joy; and

WHEREAS, Cleve Klopfenstein was quick to offer a kind word to every person who crossed his path; he will be remembered for his strength of character, easy-going and gentle spirit, positive attitude, sense of humor, wisdom, and undying love for his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Cleve Klopfenstein was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Cleve Klopfenstein is survived by his wife, Kathleen Klopfenstein; his children, Crystal (Jay) Wettstein and Aaron (Kara) Klopfenstein; his grandsons, Caleb, Carter, and Cooper Klopfenstein; his brothers, Marty Klopfenstein, Stan Klopfenstein, and David Klopfenstein; his sisters, Gloria Volk, Judy (Dave) Knobloch, and Cathy (Tim) Hohulin; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Cleve Klopfenstein and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Cleve Klopfenstein as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
