| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Terry |
| 4 | | Lovell Dean, who passed away on September 19, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Terry Dean was born in Chicago to Thomas Sr. and |
| 6 | | Mary Dean on June 22, 1974; he attended Malcolm X College and |
| 7 | | received his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois |
| 8 | | University Carbondale; he later earned his master's degree in |
| 9 | | journalism and mass communication from Columbia College |
| 10 | | Chicago; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Terry Dean worked as a newspaper editor for the |
| 12 | | Austin Weekly News and as a columnist for the Wednesday |
| 13 | | Journal in Oak Park; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Terry Dean received several awards and accolades |
| 15 | | from his peers and associates for his exceptional work in the |
| 16 | | community and his commitment to cooperative economics; he was |
| 17 | | smart and insightful and had an intellectual curiosity that |
| 18 | | served him and his readers well; his greatest contribution was |
| 19 | | as a mentor to others in his field, and his message to aspiring |
| 20 | | writers was to read your local paper and as many books as you |
| 21 | | could, find your voice, and be connected to the community; he |
| 22 | | was an active member of the Illinois Press Association; and |
