HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Department of 
4Illinois American Legion Post 673 in Huntley on its 100th 
5anniversary; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Chartered on February 7, 1921,  Huntley American 
7Legion Post 673 currently has over 320 members; it  has been and 
8continues to be an advocate for and supporter of the needs of 
9veterans; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Huntley American Legion  Post 673 supports the 
11McHenry County Veterans Assistance Commission, the Veterans 
12Path to Hope, and the New Horizons Transitional Living Program 
13with financial and volunteer resources; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Huntley American Legion Post 673 supports 
15veterans on the individual level by helping them apply for 
16benefits from the Veterans Administration, providing local 
17veteran funeral details, and raising funds to provide comfort 
18items to hospitalized veterans under the Legion's Gifts to the 
19Yanks Who Gave program; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Huntley American Legion Post 673 provides support 
21to the local community as well by organizing the Memorial Day

1parade, the Veterans Day and Flag Day ceremonies, the annual 
2VetFest community event, and the Flags Across America 
3fundraiser for placement at local cemeteries; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Huntley American Legion Post 673 supports Huntley 
5High School by providing scholarships and sponsoring programs 
6such as the Legion Oratorical Contest and the Illinois Boys 
7State Government Leadership program; therefore, be it
  
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
9HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
10we congratulate the Department of Illinois American Legion 
11Post 673 in Huntley  on its 100th anniversary; and be it further
  
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13presented to Commander Donald R. Smolinski of  American Legion 
14Post 673 in Huntley, Illinois, as a symbol of our respect and 
15esteem.
