HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Acting Fire Commissioner 
4Annette Nance-Holt on becoming the permanent Commissioner of 
5the Chicago Fire Department; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Commissioner Nance-Holt will be the first woman 
7and the first woman of color to lead the Chicago Fire 
8Department in its 162-year history; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Commissioner Nance-Holt has more than three 
10decades of proven leadership and a passion for public service; 
11and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Commissioner Nance-Holt achieved another historic 
13first when she was named the First Deputy Commissioner in 
142018, making her the first woman to hold the department's 
15number two spot; before becoming First Deputy, she served as 
16Deputy District Chief, Battalion Chief-EMT, Captain-EMT, 
17Lieutenant-EMT, and Firefighter; and
 

  
18    WHEREAS, Commissioner Nance-Holt resides in Chicago with 
19her family; she is the founder of two nonprofit community 
20organizations, Purpose Over Pain and the Blair Holt 
21Scholarship Foundation; she holds a Master of Science in

1Public Administration/Fire & Emergency Management from Anna 
2Maria College and a Bachelor of Arts from Chicago State 
3University; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
5HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
6we congratulate Acting Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt on 
7becoming the permanent Commissioner of the Chicago Fire 
8Department; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to Commissioner Nance-Holt as a symbol of our 
11respect and esteem.
