HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Theotha Lane, who passed away on April 6, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Theotha Lane was born in Inverness, Mississippi to Marion Sr. and Francis Lane on August 15, 1947; he was a member of Holy Grove Church and attended Gentry Elementary School; his family relocated to Chicago, where he graduated from John Marshall High School; he married Mary Lane on August 29, 1977, and they shared 41 years of marriage with a blended family of seven children; and

WHEREAS, Theotha Lane worked at Courtesy Food, Daniel's Country, and Johnnie's; he also worked for General Motors and then at Chatham Foods; he later worked at County Fair, where he retired as a produce manager; he owned a grocery store on the West Side of Chicago, created "Honey Do" Delivery Services, and was known as DJ "Hangout Daddy" on the West and South Sides of Chicago for over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Theotha Lane attended Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a choir member with the Male Choir; he later joined the Everlasting Love Outreach Ministry, where he served as a deacon and chairman; and

WHEREAS, Theotha Lane was affectionately known as "Rooster"; he enjoyed being a Precinct Captain in the 16th Ward and had a heart for service and a love for people; he enjoyed singing songs by The Canton Spirituals and The Williams Brothers and was an avant gardener with a beautiful green thumb; he loved playing double fifteen dominoes with his brother Arthur and his brother-in-law Eldridge; and

WHEREAS, Theotha Lane was preceded in death by his sisters, Sara, Beulah, Carrie, Sue, and Mae Emma; his brothers, Marion Jr., Jimmy, Clinton, and Louis; his granddaughter, Brianna Jenkins; and his grandson, Dwayne Jones; and

WHEREAS, Theotha Lane is survived by his children, Abigail (Elliot) Lagrone, Verleaner Lane, Dwayne (Adela) Jones, Camille Lane, Mary F. Lane-Jenkins, Leslie Harris, and Tommie Harris; his brothers, Arthur (Margie) Lane and Rev. Leonard (Amy) Lane; his brothers-in-law, Eldridge Glover and Kenneth (Loretta) Byest; his sisters-in-law, LaVern Lane, Carolyn Lane, Linda Lane, Linda (Saul) Nutall, Odean Burks, and Bobbie (Zeb) Hinds; his 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; his Godson, Renaldo Moore; his special daughter, TiChina Barrett; numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends; and his dog, Rusty; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Theotha Lane and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Theotha Lane as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
