| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb was chartered on |
| 3 | | January 25, 1921; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb has continually |
| 5 | | focused on the Kiwanis International pledge to serve the |
| 6 | | children of the world and has sponsored over 500 projects and |
| 7 | | activities serving the children of DeKalb and the world; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb's commitment to the |
| 9 | | youth of DeKalb was shown within the first decade of its |
| 10 | | formation with the donation of uniforms to the DeKalb High |
| 11 | | School band; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb has long been a |
| 13 | | staunch supporter of the development of parks in DeKalb, |
| 14 | | funding swimming programs at Hopkins Park and creating DeKalb |
| 15 | | Kiwanis Park in 1974, which has become the hub of soccer |
| 16 | | activity in DeKalb; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb expanded the reach of |
| 18 | | Kiwanis in the DeKalb area by sponsoring the creation of the |
| 19 | | Sycamore Club in 1951, the Kishwaukee Club in 1969, the Aktion |
| 20 | | Club of Opportunity House in 2003, and the Tri-County Club in |
| 21 | | 2010; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb sponsored the creation |
| 2 | | of the first Key Club in the Eastern Illinois District at |
| 3 | | DeKalb High School in 1947 and sponsors Builders Clubs at |
| 4 | | Huntley and Rosette Middle Schools, thereby providing a |
| 5 | | service club opportunity for the youth of the DeKalb |
| 6 | | community; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb made significant |
| 8 | | financial contributions to Kiwanis International Programs, |
| 9 | | including the eradication of iodine deficient disorders in the |
| 10 | | 1990s and the elimination of maternal neo-natal tetanus in |
| 11 | | this century; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb has funded college and |
| 13 | | vocational education scholarships for graduating DeKalb High |
| 14 | | School seniors for over 60 years; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb initiated the Flag |
| 16 | | Program in 1998, which provides a patriotic outlet for |
| 17 | | participating DeKalb households; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb has continuously |
| 19 | | participated in DeKalb's Corn Fest since 1982, providing |
| 20 | | delicious roasted sweet corn for the more than 100,000 |
| 21 | | attendees each year; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 2 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 3 | | we congratulate the Kiwanis Club of DeKalb for its 100 years of |
| 4 | | service to the community; and be it further
|
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 6 | | presented to the Kiwanis Club of DeKalb as an expression of our |
| 7 | | esteem and respect.
