HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who have given their lives in service to their communities; and

WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Lincoln Hollinsaid was raised in Lake Wildwood and later moved to Malden; he graduated from Princeton High School; and

WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Hollinsaid enlisted in the United States Army in 1995; before the invasion of Iraq in 2003, he transferred to a different military unit to have a better opportunity of serving in combat; and

WHEREAS, On April 7, 2003, Staff Sergeant Hollinsaid was the platoon SGT when they had been assigned a mission to remove a wall that aligned with Highway 8 near the Baghdad airport; after a section had been removed, he walked forward to examine the area; at that time, enemy combatants fired upon him, and he was hit by small arms fire and an RPG; he died instantly; and

WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Hollinsaid was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and drive his pickup, which he had adapted to use for four wheeling in the rough terrain and mountains of Southern California; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the Main Street bridge over I-80 in Princeton as the "Staff Sergeant Lincoln Hollinsaid Memorial Bridge"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving notice of the name "Staff Sergeant Lincoln Hollinsaid Memorial Bridge"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the family of Staff Sergeant Hollinsaid and the Secretary of Transportation.
