| 2 | | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General

| 3 | | Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who have given
|
| 4 | | their lives in service to their communities; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Lincoln Hollinsaid was raised in |
| 6 | | Lake Wildwood and later moved to Malden; he graduated from |
| 7 | | Princeton High School; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Hollinsaid enlisted in the United |
| 9 | | States Army in 1995; before the invasion of Iraq in 2003, he |
| 10 | | transferred to a different military unit to have a better |
| 11 | | opportunity of serving in combat; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, On April 7, 2003, Staff Sergeant Hollinsaid was |
| 13 | | the platoon SGT when they had been assigned a mission to remove |
| 14 | | a wall that aligned with Highway 8 near the Baghdad airport; |
| 15 | | after a section had been removed, he walked forward to examine |
| 16 | | the area; at that time, enemy combatants fired upon him, and he |
| 17 | | was hit by small arms fire and an RPG; he died instantly; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Hollinsaid was an avid outdoorsman |
| 19 | | and loved to hunt and drive his pickup, which he had adapted to |
| 20 | | use for four wheeling in the rough terrain and mountains of |
| 21 | | Southern California; therefore, be it
