| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Dolores Madgeline Hockett, who passed |
| 4 | | away on October 12, 2020; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett was born to Minnie Hodges in |
| 6 | | Chicago on July 5, 1931; at an early age, her family moved to |
| 7 | | Baltimore, Maryland, where she attended St. Frances Academy; |
| 8 | | upon returning to Chicago, she completed her high school |
| 9 | | education at Morgan Park Academy, where she met and married |
| 10 | | Carter J. Russell; she later married Cecil B. Hockett; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett worked as an elementary school |
| 12 | | crossing guard and for Beeline Fashions, opportunities which |
| 13 | | allowed her to work close to home; as her children grew, she |
| 14 | | took a position with the Chicago Board of Elections, where she |
| 15 | | was a strong advocate for voter registration and education; she |
| 16 | | retired from the Board of Elections after 31 years of service; |
| 17 | | and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett was an active parishioner at St. |
| 19 | | Hoachim, St. Killian, and Holy Name of Mary parishes; she was |
| 20 | | especially dedicated to her membership in the Knights of Peter |
| 21 | | Clave Ladies Auxiliary organization; and |
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett's interests included bowling, |
| 2 | | traveling, and her beloved Golden Girls Club membership; she |
| 3 | | played the saxophone and enjoyed several different genres of |
| 4 | | music; her passion for style and fashion was evident in the |
| 5 | | many original designs she created; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett was a devoted wife and an |
| 7 | | excellent mother, grandmother, role model, disciplinarian, and |
| 8 | | comforter; she loved to cook and enjoyed Sunday family dinners; |
| 9 | | Christmas holidays were her favorite; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett was strong but always gentle; she |
| 11 | | was uninhibited in her expressions of joy and praise and |
| 12 | | displayed a genuine interest in her family and friends; she was |
| 13 | | an inspiration and had a warm smile and caring demeanor; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett was preceded in death by her |
| 15 | | husband, Cecil; her brother, Rodger A. Hodges; and two |
| 16 | | great-grandchildren; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett is survived by her eight children, |
| 18 | | Carter, Terrie, Carlotta, Carl, Tanya, Clifford, Courtney, and |
| 19 | | Theresa; three daughters-in-law; 19 grandchildren; 28 |
| 20 | | great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her |
| 21 | | brother, Clifford A. Hodges;
and numerous other family members |

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
| 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 3 | | Dolores Madgeline Hockett and extend our sincere condolences to |
| 4 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
| 5 | | further
|
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 7 | | presented to the family of Dolores Hockett as an expression of |
| 8 | | our deepest sympathy.
