SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Dolores Madgeline Hockett, who passed 
4away on October 12, 2020; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett was born to Minnie Hodges in 
6Chicago on July 5, 1931; at an early age, her family moved to 
7Baltimore, Maryland, where she attended St. Frances Academy; 
8upon returning to Chicago, she completed her high school 
9education at Morgan Park Academy, where she met and married 
10Carter J. Russell; she later married Cecil B. Hockett; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett worked as an elementary school 
12crossing guard and for Beeline Fashions, opportunities which 
13allowed her to work close to home; as her children grew, she 
14took a position with the Chicago Board of Elections, where she 
15was a strong advocate for voter registration and education; she 
16retired from the Board of Elections after 31 years of service; 
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett was an active parishioner at St. 
19Hoachim, St. Killian, and Holy Name of Mary parishes; she was 
20especially dedicated to her membership in the Knights of Peter 
21Clave Ladies Auxiliary organization; and

1    WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett's interests included bowling, 
2traveling, and her beloved Golden Girls Club membership; she 
3played the saxophone and enjoyed several different genres of 
4music; her passion for style and fashion was evident in the 
5many original designs she created; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett was a devoted wife and an 
7excellent mother, grandmother, role model, disciplinarian, and 
8comforter; she loved to cook and enjoyed Sunday family dinners; 
9Christmas holidays were her favorite; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett was strong but always gentle; she 
11was uninhibited in her expressions of  joy and praise and 
12displayed a  genuine interest in her  family and friends; she was 
13an inspiration and had a warm smile and caring demeanor; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett was preceded in death by her 
15husband, Cecil; her brother, Rodger A. Hodges; and two 
16great-grandchildren; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Dolores Hockett is survived by her eight children, 
18Carter, Terrie, Carlotta, Carl, Tanya, Clifford, Courtney, and 
19Theresa; three daughters-in-law; 19 grandchildren; 28 
20great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her 
21brother, Clifford A. Hodges;

and numerous other family members 
22and friends; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL 
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
3Dolores Madgeline Hockett and extend our sincere condolences to 
4her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it 
5further
  
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7presented to  the family of  Dolores Hockett as an expression of 
8our deepest sympathy.
