SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Stanley "Stan" Turk of Joliet, who passed away on April 19, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Stan Turk was born in Rockdale to Frank and Anna (Muren) Turk on March 17, 1926; he attended the Rockdale Elementary School; he graduated from Joliet Catholic High School in June of 1944; he served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in the Pacific theater until his honorable discharge in 1946; and

WHEREAS, Stan Turk worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 40 years; before airmail was common, he worked on trains to sort mail and deliver it to cities and towns across many states; he was later transferred to the old Main Post Office in Chicago and then to the Joliet Post Office in 1968, where he worked until his retirement in 1983; and

WHEREAS, Stan Turk was a member of numerous service organizations, including the Elks, the Moose, the Will County Old Timers' Baseball Association, and the Joliet Park Foundation; he enjoyed playing euchre several nights each week, supporting his granddaughters in everything they did, and playing a key part in his son Mike's political campaigns; he served as an usher at the Cathedral of Saint Raymond; he was a regular blood donor; and

WHEREAS, Stan Turk was a truly loving and kind man; he will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend; and

WHEREAS, Stan Turk was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes (Moffatt); his parents, Frank and Anna (Muren) Turk; and his seven brothers, Frank (Carm), George (Ange), Joe (Dorothy), Marty (Edna), Wally (Dorothy), Gus (Mary), and Benny (Donna); and

WHEREAS, Stan Turk is survived by his sons, Mike (Kathy) Turk and Pat (Laura) Turk; his granddaughters, Katie (Casey) Turk-Nguyen and Maggie (Scott Hansen) Turk; his numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins, including Mariagnes, Jane, Patty and Bob (Mary) Dalton, Therese (Tony) Marino, Mary (John) Jensen, Frank (Linda) Turk, Joe (Pam) Turk, Linda Harvey, Georgene Spears, Kathy Wilhelmi, Cheri (Zbish) Borowiec, Mark (Denise) Turk, Steve Turk, and Rick Turk; his "adopted" son, Luis (Alicia) Leon; Luis' son, Louis; and Luis' daughter, Mariagnes (Greg) Branson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Stanley "Stan" Turk and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Stan Turk as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
