SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Doris Emalyn Karnes of Bunker Hill, who passed away on March 26, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Doris Karnes was born to Henry and Cordelia Suhling of Dorchester on September 4, 1930; she graduated from Dorchester Elementary School and Shipman High School; and

WHEREAS, Doris Karnes worked at Famous Barr from 1979 until her retirement in 1999; and

WHEREAS, Doris Karnes was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bunker Hill, where she enjoyed serving on the altar guild and working at the sausage suppers; her love of gardening led her to be a member of the Beautification Committee in Bunker Hill and the Hemerocallis Society in Macoupin County; she volunteered at Staunton Hospital for many years; she enjoyed spending time with her family, tending to her bluebird houses, and raising her Dachshunds; and

WHEREAS, Doris Karnes was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Patricia Viehweg and Elinor Tschauder; and

WHEREAS, Doris Karnes is survived by her children, Virgil (Sally) Karnes, Debbie (John) Higgins, and Denise (Jim) Hessel; her grandchildren, Daniel (Keri) Karnes, Molly (Brent) Rosentreter, Emmy Karnes, Chris (Jessa) Wittman, Greg (Lisa) Wittman, and Lucas (Brittany) Wittman; her great-grandchildren, Paige Wittman, Maya Wittman, Ellie Wittman, Chase Wittman, Blake Wittman, Maddy Rosentreter, Colt Rosentreter, and Ty Rosentreter; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Doris Emalyn Karnes and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Doris Karnes as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
