| 2 | | WHEREAS, It is important to acknowledge 2019 as the 'Year |
| 3 | | of Chicago Theatre', as designated in 2018 by former Mayor Rahm |
| 4 | | Emanuel and many other civic, arts, and theatre leaders; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The city-wide, year-long focus on theatre is the |
| 6 | | first of its kind in the U.S. and has included theatre |
| 7 | | performances of improv, dance, opera, puppetry, and more and |
| 8 | | special events for the public at hundreds of cultural venues, |
| 9 | | theaters, parks, and neighborhood locations throughout the |
| 10 | | city; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The Year of Chicago Theatre follows the success of |
| 12 | | initiatives from 2017 and 2018 celebrating Chicago's public art |
| 13 | | and its creative youth; its mission is to make 2019 a year in |
| 14 | | which the City of Chicago emphasizes the prominence of its |
| 15 | | expansive and innovative theatre industry; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, The City of Chicago and its partners vowed to |
| 17 | | launch a marketing campaign that leverages a new brand for |
| 18 | | Chicago theatre, to provide additional financial grants to |
| 19 | | theatre projects, to encourage dialogue around inclusion and |
| 20 | | equity, and to call on civic, philanthropic, arts, and business |
| 21 | | leaders to support the theatre community; and
