SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Judge Thomas More "Tom" Schippers of 
4Mundelein, who passed away on September 6, 2019; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Judge Schippers graduated from Loyola University 
6Chicago School of Law; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Judge Schippers was appointed as an Associate 
8Judge on March 8, 2007; he was elected as Circuit Judge on 
9November 6, 2012 and retained by the voters in November 2018; 
10in addition to private practice, he served as an Assistant Lake 
11County State's Attorney, an Assistant Illinois Attorney 
12General, and as Senior Investigative Counsel for the United 
13States House of Representatives; most recently, he served as 
14the Presiding Judge of the Lake County Civil Division; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Judge Schippers was a member of the Illinois Bar 
16Association and the Knights of Columbus; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Judge Schippers was a man of great faith and a 
18devoted public servant; he was a dedicated family man; he will 
19be remembered for his keen intellect, sense of humor, guidance, 
20and support; and

1    WHEREAS, Judge Schippers is survived by his wife, Carol 
2Elaine Chartier Schippers; his children, Allison (Paul 
3Hubberts) Schippers, Thomas (Jacqueline) Schippers, and Scott 
4Schippers; his grandchildren, Theo Hubberts and Tommy and Henry 
5Schippers; and his siblings, Kathleen (Michael Batka) 
6Schippers, David Philip (Pat Connor) Schippers III, Tiyi (David 
7Bunce) Schippers, Ann (Bob) Winter, Colleen (Lou) Margolis, 
8Kevin (Beth) Schippers, Mimi (Scott Bullock) Schippers, Pat 
9(Trisha Schippers), and Peter (Laura Taylor) Schippers; 
10therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL 
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
13Judge Thomas More "Tom" Schippers and extend our sincere 
14condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved 
15him; and be it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to the family of Judge Schippers as an expression of 
18our deepest sympathy.
