SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Samuel Cunningham "Sam" Wray of Coal Valley, who passed away on March 27, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Sam Wray was born in Warsaw, Missouri to Harold Riley and Edith Pauline Linn Wray on July 18, 1935; he graduated from Purdue University with a degree in mechanical engineering; he served in the United States Army for three years; he married Hildegarde Rogge in Rockville, Maryland on July 20, 1957; and

WHEREAS, Sam Wray worked as a consulting engineer for KJWW and retired in 1996 after 29 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Sam Wray was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, where he was a member of the Men's Club; he was also a member of the Rock Island Rotary Club; he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, traveling, golfing, history, and geography; and

WHEREAS, Sam Wray was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Quintella Markley; and

WHEREAS, Sam Wray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hilde; his sons, Matthew (Marlaine) Wray, Timothy (Virginia) Wray, and David (Patty) Wray; his grandchildren and their spouses, Danielle Higgins, Myles Higgins, Tessa and Josh Lane, Caleb Wray, Josh Wray, Jacob and Whitney Wray, Sierra Wray, Tiffany and Joseph Dockery-Jackson, Samantha Wray, and Zachary Wray; and his great-grandchildren, Anthony, Ryan, Anneliese, and Oliver Dockery-Jackson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Samuel Cunningham "Sam" Wray and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sam Wray as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
