SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The Unit Church Ushers League, Chicago Zone (UCUL) 
3is a not-for-profit, interfaith organization of Christian men 
4and women who have devoted themselves to the ministry of church 
5ushering; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The Unit Church Ushers League, Chicago Zone was 
7founded by John C. Williams; the first nine church usher boards 
8of Chicago were Bethel A.M.E.,  Greater Walters A.M.E Zion, 
9Quinn Chapel A.M.E., Salem Baptist, now Greater Salem Baptist, 
10South Park Methodist, now Hartzell United Methodist, St. John 
11Baptist Church, now St. John Church Baptist, St. Mary A.M.E., 
12Olivet Baptist, and St. Paul A.M.E.; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, The Unit Church Ushers League, Chicago Zone has 
14grown into a statewide organization, which is affiliated with 
15the National United Church Users Association of America, Inc.; 
16this organization brings together thousands of church ushers 
17from across the country for training and support; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, The Unit Church Ushers League, Chicago Zone is 
19dedicated to enhancing the service provided by its members to 
20their churches and to establishing bonds between doorkeepers 
21throughout the area; through instructions and fellowship, the 
22organization encourages its members to recognize the

1importance of their ministry; the interdenominational 
2organization provides a forum for its members to gain an 
3increased awareness of the usher's role in the church, learn 
4better techniques to serve the needs of their pastor and 
5congregation, and expand their appreciation of ushering as a 
6Christian ministry; and
  
 
  
7    WHEREAS, The Unit Church Ushers League, Chicago Zone is 
8committed to service and the community; they provide hands-on 
9support and economic relief to their communities and to those 
10in need through outreach and education ministries; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, The Unit Church Ushers League, Chicago Zone will 
12celebrate its 100th anniversary on September 28, 2019; 
13therefore, be it
  
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL 
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare September 
1628, 2019 Unit Church Usher League, Chicago Zone Day in the 
17State of Illinois; and be it further
  
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19presented to the Unit Church Ushers League, Chicago Zone as an 
20expression of our esteem and respect.
