| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Judy Abruscato of Wheeling, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on December 28, 2018; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Judy Abruscato was born in 1934 and, after the | ||||||
| 6 | death of her parents, was raised by her grandmother; at the age | ||||||
| 7 | of 13, she won her first election when she was voted student | ||||||
| 8 | president at her elementary school; she started working in a | ||||||
| 9 | Chicago store, where she decorated windows, at age 14; before | ||||||
| 10 | she turned 16, she began working at a bank, showing other | ||||||
| 11 | employees how to fill out statements and file; in 2013, at the | ||||||
| 12 | age of 78, she celebrated her 35th anniversary at MB Financial, | ||||||
| 13 | where she worked as the Wheeling Branch Manager and Vice | ||||||
| 14 | President; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, After moving to Wheeling with her husband in 1969, | ||||||
| 16 | Judy Abruscato became active in the community; she served on | ||||||
| 17 | the village's Zoning Board of Appeals and then as a village | ||||||
| 18 | trustee for 22 years; she was elected president in 2009, a | ||||||
| 19 | position she held until 2013; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Judy Abruscato's community involvement went | ||||||
| 21 | beyond her service in village government; she was also active | ||||||
| 22 | in the Wheeling High School Parent Teacher Organization, the | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | Wheeling High School Instrumental League, the Wheeling Lioness | ||||||
| 2 | Club, the Wheeling Rotary Club, the Wheeling and Prospect | ||||||
| 3 | Heights Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Wheeling Garden | ||||||
| 4 | Club, the Wheeling Historical Society, and the Wheeling Senior | ||||||
| 5 | Center Foundation; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Judy Abruscato's accomplishments include starting | ||||||
| 7 | the holiday Festival of Lights, the Taste of Wheeling, and the | ||||||
| 8 | Fourth of July fireworks; she also helped secure bulletproof | ||||||
| 9 | vests for police officers and worked on a program to reimburse | ||||||
| 10 | businesses for improving their building facades; she dedicated | ||||||
| 11 | decades of her life to all facets of community service and was | ||||||
| 12 | the definition of what it means to be a public servant; her | ||||||
| 13 | influence will continue for many years to come; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Judy Abruscato was the loving wife of the late | ||||||
| 15 | Mario; the beloved mother of Valerie (Alden Lewis) Abruscato | ||||||
| 16 | and Tony (Sam Griffith) Abruscato, the cherished nana of | ||||||
| 17 | Nicholas and Jackson, and the loving aunt and friend of many; | ||||||
| 18 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
| 20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 21 | Judy Abruscato and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
| 22 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
| 23 | further
