| 1 | | AN ACT concerning safety.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The University of Illinois Scientific Surveys |
| 5 | | Act is amended by adding Section 22 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (110 ILCS 425/22 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 22. Microplastics report. |
| 8 | | (a) Subject to appropriation, the Prairie Research |
| 9 | | Institute shall conduct a detailed review of the available |
| 10 | | scientific literature and federal and State laws, regulations, |
| 11 | | and rules to identify the threat of microplastics to human |
| 12 | | health and the environment. |
| 13 | | (b) No later than 3 months after completion of the review |
| 14 | | conducted under subsection (a), the Prairie Research Institute |
| 15 | | shall submit to the General Assembly a report of its findings |
| 16 | | that must include any recommendations for legislative or |
| 17 | | regulatory actions that the State can take to protect human |
| 18 | | health and the environment from microplastics. |
| 19 | | (c) This Section is repealed on July 1, 2021.
