| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate our colleague | ||||||
| 4 | Representative Terri Courtney Bryant on her distinguished | ||||||
| 5 | service to the people of the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Representative Bryant has faithfully served the | ||||||
| 7 | citizens of the 115th district since being sworn in at the | ||||||
| 8 | Jackson County Courthouse in Murphysboro in January 2015; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Representative Bryant and Rick, her husband of 40 | ||||||
| 10 | years, wish to thank the people of the 115th district and the | ||||||
| 11 | citizens of Southern Illinois for the trust they placed in her | ||||||
| 12 | as she earned six consecutive election victories; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Representative Bryant has amassed a voting record | ||||||
| 14 | that reflects her conservative values, including consistently | ||||||
| 15 | voting against unconstitutional gun control legislation, | ||||||
| 16 | opposing the practice and expansion of taxpayer-funded | ||||||
| 17 | abortions, supporting balanced budgets, and promoting ethics | ||||||
| 18 | reform; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Representative Bryant worked to earn overwhelming | ||||||
| 20 | majority support for Molly's Law, legislation that provides | ||||||
| 21 | civil and criminal penalty protections for families of victims | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | of violent crime that was inspired by the unsolved case of the | ||||||
| 2 | death of Jackson County resident Molly Young, and joined with | ||||||
| 3 | Molly's father, Larry Young, who leads the Justice for Molly | ||||||
| 4 | movement to earn support in both chambers of the legislature | ||||||
| 5 | and the Governor's signature; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Representative Bryant is a proud Murphysboro | ||||||
| 7 | resident, and she sponsored a House Joint Resolution naming | ||||||
| 8 | Murphysboro as Illinois' Barbecue Capital City; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Representative Bryant is a retired 20 year veteran | ||||||
| 10 | of the Illinois Department of Corrections; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Representative Bryant's tireless efforts to forge | ||||||
| 12 | compromise and identify and solve issues involving criminal | ||||||
| 13 | justice reform led House Republican Leader Jim Durkin to name | ||||||
| 14 | her as House Republican Spokesperson for the House Judiciary | ||||||
| 15 | Criminal Law Committee for the 101st General Assembly; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, During her six-year career in the Illinois House, | ||||||
| 17 | Representative Bryant rose to the ranks of Chairperson of the | ||||||
| 18 | Downstate Republican Caucus and served on the executive board | ||||||
| 19 | of the Illinois Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Representative Bryant is a devoted mother of two | ||||||
| 21 | and a loving grandmother of four grandchildren; she is an avid | ||||||

| 1 | hunter, avid angler, and decent golfer; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Representative Bryant was elected to serve as 58th | ||||||
| 3 | District State Senator on November 3, 2020 and will be | ||||||
| 4 | inaugurated into her new position on Wednesday, January 13, | ||||||
| 5 | 2020; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives wish | ||||||
| 7 | Representative Bryant the very best in her new position as 58th | ||||||
| 8 | District State Senator; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 10 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 11 | we wish to thank Representative Terri Courtney Bryant for her | ||||||
| 12 | years of dedicated service as 115th District State | ||||||
| 13 | Representative; and be it further
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 15 | presented to Representative Bryant as an expression of our | ||||||
| 16 | esteem and respect.
