| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Palos Hills Police Chief |
| 4 | | Paul J. Madigan
on the occasion of his retirement after over 50 |
| 5 | | years in law enforcement; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Chief Madigan began his career in law enforcement |
| 7 | | in the late 1960s as a railroad detective; he joined the Palos |
| 8 | | Hills Police Department in October of 1971 and has served in |
| 9 | | every position within the department, which included a three |
| 10 | | year
assignment with a regional undercover narcotics task |
| 11 | | force; he became chief of the department in 1993; in 2002, he |
| 12 | | formed one of the first regional SWAT teams
in the southwest |
| 13 | | suburbs; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Chief Madigan retired from the United States Army |
| 15 | | and Army Reserve
after serving for over 30 years; while serving |
| 16 | | with the Palos Hills Police Department, he was deployed to |
| 17 | | Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, for which he was awarded |
| 18 | | the
Bronze Star; he was deployed numerous times on humanitarian
|
| 19 | | missions to Egypt, Nigeria, South America, and Central America; |
| 20 | | while serving as the
command sergeant major of a joint task |
| 21 | | force in Central America, he was awarded the Monja Blanca Medal |
| 22 | | by the Guatemalan government for outstanding service to the |
| 23 | | people of
Guatemala during recovery operations after the |
