| 2 | | WHEREAS, By law, the U.S. government is required to count |
| 3 | | the number of people living in the United States every ten |
| 4 | | years; engaging the participation of all individuals in order |
| 5 | | to get an accurate count is of crucial importance because |
| 6 | | census numbers impact all individuals and all organizations in |
| 7 | | the United States in many ways; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The federal government uses census numbers to |
| 9 | | allocate more than $675 billion in federal funds annually for |
| 10 | | community programs and services, such as education programs, |
| 11 | | housing and community development, health care services, |
| 12 | | grants, and a variety of special projects; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, The census also plays a vital role in our nation's |
| 14 | | system of government by determining how many representatives |
| 15 | | will be sent to Congress from each state to convey our concerns |
| 16 | | and work towards a better future; the information is then used |
| 17 | | by lawmakers to prioritize allocations to the communities |
| 18 | | schools, hospitals, and infrastructures in the most need; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, State, local, and tribal governments use census |
| 20 | | information for planning and allocating funds for new schools, |
| 21 | | libraries, public transportation systems, new roads and |
| 22 | | bridges, and for help in determining zoning locations for |
