HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Edwardsville High School and Coach Dave Lipe on being named the 2019 USTA St. Louis Organizational Member of the Year in recognition of the numerous tennis-related events that the tennis center hosts throughout the year; and

WHEREAS, While facilities like country clubs and tennis clubs are in the running for this honor, it is significant that the honor of Organizational Member of the Year was awarded to a high school; and

WHEREAS, The Edwardsville High School Tennis Center hosts many events and programs, including the Edwardsville Open and the USTA Pro Circuit event Edwardsville Futures, the only professional tournament in the country hosted on a high school campus; the center also hosts junior tournaments, including the Tiger Tennis Classic; and

WHEREAS, Coach Dave Lipe has guided the boys and girls tennis teams at Edwardsville High School to success through his continued hard work, building a strong tennis program and establishing the Mitch and Friends Fund to provide tennis clinics for children with special needs; furthermore, Coach Lipe won his 800th career dual meet earlier this year; and

WHEREAS, In addition to being part of the coaching staff responsible for this USTA honor, Assistant Coaches Kirk Schlueter and Emily Cimarolli were awarded the USTA St. Louis Junior Team Tennis Award for their work in bringing Junior Team Tennis back to Edwardsville High School after a nearly ten-year absence; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Coach Dave Lipe on the success of the Edwardsville High School tennis program and commend him for his leadership, which led to Edwardsville High School being named the USTA St. Louis Organizational Member of the Year, and his work, as a tennis coach, in shaping the youth of Edwardsville; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Dave Coach Lipe, Assistant Coach Kirk Schlueter, and Assistant Coach Emily Cimarolli as an expression of our esteem and respect.
