| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Chester |
| 4 | | Slaughter of Chicago, who passed away on December 23, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Chester Slaughter was born and raised on the South |
| 6 | | Side of Chicago and was a successful product of the Chicago |
| 7 | | Public School system; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Chester Slaughter went on to attend Tennessee |
| 9 | | State University (TSU), earning his undergraduate degrees in |
| 10 | | political science and history in 1965; inspired by the civil |
| 11 | | rights movement and determined to make a difference in the |
| 12 | | lives of African Americans, he furthered his education at |
| 13 | | Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C.; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Chester Slaughter participated in the Howard Law |
| 15 | | Journal and received his Juris Doctorate in 1968; while |
| 16 | | attending law school, he met the love of his life, Ruth Willis; |
| 17 | | and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Chester Slaughter's achievement as an outstanding |
| 19 | | defense attorney propelled him to become a trailblazer in the |
| 20 | | legal community and a vital cornerstone of four notable law |
| 21 | | firms; and
