HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Rudolph T. Danel, who passed away on May 14, 2019 at the age of 103; and

WHEREAS, Rudolph Danel was born in Silesia (now Poland) in 1915, the youngest of ten children; as a youngster, he learned to be self-reliant and earned money by running errands for people in his village; he was determined to get an education and attended whenever he could; at the age of 14, he joined the army; and

WHEREAS, In the army, Rudolph Danel learned to play musical instruments; he participated in the marching band and became a trumpet player; he did chores for the local school in lieu of tuition and learned to play the viola; and

WHEREAS, Rudolph Danel was a survivor of Auschwitz; he was arrested by the Gestapo for stealing information and documents from a German police sergeant; he adapted and played music in the Auschwitz orchestra; after World War II, he was able to obtain college tuition concessions and earned a degree in business-economics from Munich University; and

WHEREAS, In 1950, Rudolph Danel emigrated to Chicago; his first jobs were in manufacturing, but later he began his life's career as a social worker; and

WHEREAS, Shortly after 1950, Rudolph Danel met Maria Ruth Swincow, who became the love of his life; they married and had three children, Isabella, Elizabeth, and Alexander; they enjoyed going to symphonies and operas and spent summers in Union Pier, Michigan; and

WHEREAS, Rudolph Danel was a loyal husband and dedicated father; his family was the focus of his life; his grandchildren brought him great joy, and he was amazed to become a great-grandfather; and

WHEREAS, Rudolph Danel is survived by his children, Isabella and Alexander; his three grandchildren, David, Rachael, and Sasza; and his great-grandchildren, Sienna and David Jr.; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rudolph T. Danel and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rudolph Danel as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
