| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Immanuel Lutheran Church |
| 4 | | of Palatine on the occasion of its 150th anniversary; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, On February 20, 1869, a meeting was held on the |
| 6 | | platform of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad in Palatine to |
| 7 | | discuss the creation of a Lutheran congregation; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, On March 9, 1869, the Battermann, Engelking, Greb, |
| 9 | | Hartung, Knickrehm, Prellberg, Senne, Schirding, and Schroeder |
| 10 | | families met to officially organize a congregation and create |
| 11 | | the church to be known as the Evangelical Lutheran Immanuel |
| 12 | | Congregation Unaltered Augsburg Confessions of Palatine; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, The congregation later joined the Lutheran |
| 14 | | Church-Missouri Synod on May 4, 1873; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Immanuel Lutheran Church had humble beginnings; |
| 16 | | the church was heated by a potbellied stove and had a |
| 17 | | pump-organ that was operated by a person hidden behind a door |
| 18 | | who would pump throughout each song while the organ played; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Until World War II, the main language spoken in |
| 20 | | the church was German; it was stopped due to anti-German |
