SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert L. "Bob" Ries of Rock Island, who passed away on October 1, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Bob Ries was born in Sterling to Louis A. and Esther M. Kiesel Ries on October 22, 1933; he graduated from Rock Island High School and earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Bradley University; he was a veteran of the United States Army; he married Mary Lou Stribley in Paris, Illinois on March 6, 1955; and

WHEREAS, Bob Ries worked as a service manager for AT&T for over 30 years; after his retirement, he worked at KONE for over ten years; and

WHEREAS, Bob Ries was active with the Corn Belt Running Club in Davenport; he served as a committee chair for the Junior-Bix and Quad Cities Marathon for 20 years; he had a passion for volunteering at Niabi Zoo, where he served as an animal handler, educator, and interpreter; he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Bob Ries was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James A. Ries; and

WHEREAS, Bob Ries is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; his children, Jim (Deb) Ries, Johnna (Tom) Anderson, and Sue (Chris) Propst; his grandchildren, Amanda (Pat) Mitton, Kirsten (Austin Flyger) Propst, Jake (Sarah) Anderson, Michael (Jessica) Ries, and Christopher (Violet) Propst; and his great-grandchildren, Ries and Mason Mitton, Jamison and Colton Ries, Savannah Anderson, and Norah Flyger; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert L. "Bob" Ries and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bob Ries as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
