SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Robert Dean Stuart of Edwardsville, who 
4passed away on January 17, 2018; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Stuart was born in Granite City to James and 
6Verna Diehle Stuart on April 10, 1939; he graduated from 
7Granite City High School in 1957; he then attended Missouri 
8Valley College where he was a member of the Sigma Nu 
9fraternity, lettered in basketball and golf, and graduated in 
101961; he earned a master's degree in education administration 
11from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; he married 
12Sandra Stephens at the Van Brunt Presbyterian Church in Kansas 
13City, Missouri on June 25, 1961; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Bob Stuart had a long and distinguished career 
15with the Edwardsville School District, which he began as a 
16science teacher and coach for Edwardsville Junior High School 
17in 1961; he was then named Assistant Principal of the junior 
18high and went on to be the Principal of Glen Carbon Elementary 
19School; in 1983, he was promoted to Director of Instruction for 
20the district and then named Assistant Superintendent in Charge  
21of Curriculum; in 1991, he was named Superintendent of Schools 
22and remained in that position until he retired in 1996; he 
23considered the passing of the referendum and overseeing the

1construction of the new high school to be the highlight of his 
2career; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Bob Stuart was a member of the First Presbyterian 
4Church of Edwardsville for over 50 years; he was a proud member 
5of DeMolay, the Jaycees, and the Rotary, where he was named a 
6Paul Harris Fellows Scholar; he was appointed and served on the 
7YMCA Board and was commissioner for the Edwardsville Fire and 
8Police Commission; and
  
 
  
9    WHEREAS, Bob Stuart is survived by his wife of 57 years, 
10Sandy; his two children, Stacy (Randy) Wimmer and Steve (Katie) 
11Stuart; and his grandchildren, Taylor (Jamie) Lockhart, and 
12Dean and Hannah Stuart; therefore, be it
  
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
15Robert Dean Stuart and extend our sincere condolences to his 
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
17further
  
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19presented to the family of Bob Stuart as an expression of our 
20deepest sympathy.
