| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Mary A. Leahy, who passed away on October |
| 4 | | 9, 2017; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Leahy was born in Chicago to Charles H. and |
| 6 | | Flora (Opferman) Sullivan; she attended Holy Ghost Parish |
| 7 | | School and graduated from Providence High School in 1937; she |
| 8 | | married Edward J. Leahy at St. Mel's Catholic Church of Chicago |
| 9 | | on Thanksgiving Day, November 21, 1940; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Mary Leahy worked as a secretary and bookkeeper |
| 11 | | for a fire extinguisher and safety company; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Mary Leahy and her husband were active in the |
| 13 | | Crystal Lake Country Club and St. Thomas Catholic Church, where |
| 14 | | she sang in the choir, was a member of the Altar and Rosary |
| 15 | | Society, the St. Joseph's Guild, the Coordinator of the |
| 16 | | Traveling Fatima Statue, and a member of the St. Thomas Women's |
| 17 | | Club, from which she received the Woman of the Year Award; she |
| 18 | | volunteered her time at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elgin, at the |
| 19 | | Little Christopher's Resale Shop, and for the Women's Golf |
| 20 | | League at Crystal Lake Country Club; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Everyone who knew Mary Leahy enjoyed her loving |
|

| 1 | | personality; she regularly took friends to doctor appointments |
| 2 | | and chemotherapy; she often sent unexpected cards and notes to |
| 3 | | friends and family just to cheer them up; and

| 4 | | WHEREAS, Mary Leahy was preceded in death by her husband, |
| 5 | | Edward; her parents; her siblings, Catherine, George, Charles, |
| 6 | | Joseph, Frances, Flora, and Genevieve; her grandsons, Jeffrey |
| 7 | | and Brian Leahy; and her beloved daughter-in-law, Jody Leahy; |
| 8 | | and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Mary Leahy is survived by her children, Charles |
| 10 | | (Peg) Leahy, Edward (Janet) Leahy, Tom (Sue) Leahy, Joanie |
| 11 | | (Jim) Collins, and Mary L. Leahy; her grandchildren, Teresa |
| 12 | | (Richard) Rosenberg, Michael (Connie) Leahy, Morgan (Marnie) |
| 13 | | Leahy, Sarah (Jon) Brosk, Elizabeth (Matt) Schwartz, and Edward |
| 14 | | (Suzi) Collins; her great-grandchildren, Katherine, Abigail, |
| 15 | | Andrew, Ben, Will, Megan Harmony, Hailie, Nicklos, Chase, |
| 16 | | Everly, Mitchell, Bradley, Noah, and Quinn; therefore, be it

| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
| 18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 19 | | Mary A. Leahy and extend our sincere condolences to her family, |
| 20 | | friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
