SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Philip M. Corlew of Edwardsville, who passed away on October 3, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Philip Corlew was born in Litchfield to Morgan B. and Mary E. (Handlon) Corlew on June 28, 1938; he married Louise R. Gradolph in Champaign on November 12, 1960; and

WHEREAS, Philip Corlew was a civil engineer and registered land surveyor in four states; he operated M.B. Corlew & Associates in Edwardsville; after merging the business, he continued to practice as a consultant and expert witness; he served on the licensing board for the Professional Engineers for the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Philip Corlew was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville; he was a member and past president of the Edwardsville Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, and a member of the Edwardsville Gun Club, the Sunset Hills Country Club, the American Consulting Engineers Council of Illinois, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Sons of the American Revolution; he was proud to be an Eagle Scout; he enjoyed hunting with his dogs and friends and was proud of his dog's field trial accomplishments; he also enjoyed fishing in Colorado; and

WHEREAS, Philip Corlew was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Louise; and

WHEREAS, Philip Corlew is survived by his daughters, Michelle Corlew and Elise S. Reis; his sister, Mary Georgia Simpson; his niece, Sherry Scarsdale; his nephew, Philip Simpson; and his great-nephew, William Curtis Beasley; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Philip M. Corlew, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Philip Corlew as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
