| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Mark Alan Miller, who passed away on |
| 4 | | September 16, 2017; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mark Miller was born in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin to |
| 6 | | Tim and Irene Miller on June 28, 1945; he was baptized at |
| 7 | | Shiloh Baptist Church and graduated from North Chicago |
| 8 | | Community High School; he attended Central State College in |
| 9 | | Ohio and served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967 |
| 10 | | during the Vietnam War; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Mark Miller was employed at Johnson Motors and |
| 12 | | Commonwealth Edison; on October 1, 1975, he became the first |
| 13 | | African American full-time firefighter for the City of North |
| 14 | | Chicago; he obtained several licensures and certifications, |
| 15 | | including Firefighter II, National Register Emergency Medical |
| 16 | | Technician Paramedic, and Hazardous Materials Operations; he |
| 17 | | received commendations for skill and dedication during his |
| 18 | | tenure, including assisting in the rescue efforts of two |
| 19 | | children from a structure fire; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Mark Miller served as union secretary; he helped |
| 21 | | organize fund raisers and was involved in the Illinois Black |
| 22 | | Firefighters Association and several community functions |
