| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Burton D. Cohen, who passed away on March |
| 4 | | 4, 2017 at the age of 77; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Burton Cohen graduated from the Illinois |
| 6 | | Institute of Technology and earned a Juris Doctorate from |
| 7 | | Northwestern University; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Burton Cohen spent 35 years at McDonald's |
| 9 | | Corporation; he retired as Sr. Vice-President and Chief |
| 10 | | Franchising Officer, where he oversaw McDonald's franchising |
| 11 | | activities worldwide and helped the company grow into the |
| 12 | | Fortune 500; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, In his retirement years, Burton Cohen kept busy as |
| 14 | | the founder of Burton D. Cohen & Associates; he served on the |
| 15 | | boards of many firms including The Learning Experience and The |
| 16 | | Dwyer Group; he co-authored and taught Strategic Franchising as |
| 17 | | a faculty member at the Kellogg School of Management at |
| 18 | | Northwestern University; the wildly popular course, which he |
| 19 | | taught for 15 years, became the gold standard in business |
| 20 | | school curricula; and

| 21 | | WHEREAS, Burton Cohen was an avid tennis player, biker, and |
