| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of James Louis Clingingsmith of Woodstock, |
| 4 | | formerly of St. Mary's, who passed away on February 5, 2017 at |
| 5 | | the age of 79; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, James Clingingsmith was born in Malden, Missouri |
| 7 | | to Oda L. and Helen (Minton) Clingingsmith on May 4, 1937; he |
| 8 | | married the love of his life, Joan L. Clancy, in Daguscahonda |
| 9 | | on August 6, 1960; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, James Clingingsmith proudly served in the United |
| 11 | | States Air Force as a Special Forces Intelligence field |
| 12 | | operative from 1955 until 1960; he was an Atomic Veteran who |
| 13 | | served with the Joint Task Force Seven in the spring of 1958, |
| 14 | | and participated in Operation Hardtack on Johnston Island for |
| 15 | | atomic bomb testing; he also worked on the security detail for |
| 16 | | Dr. Von Braun; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, James Clingingsmith was very active as a |
| 18 | | Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scouts, Indian |
| 19 | | Guides, and the local youth softball team, which he helped |
| 20 | | organize and coach while residing in Arlington Heights; he was |
| 21 | | a valued sales engineer for Stackpole Carbon Company in St. |
| 22 | | Mary's for over 25 years; he later started his own sales |

| 1 | | representative service for carbon graphite products; and |
| 2 | | WHEREAS, James Clingingsmith was a devout member of The |
| 3 | | church of the Holy Apostles in McHenry, and participated in the |
| 4 | | prayer line; he was a member of The Knights of Columbus Council |
| 5 | | #1288; he was known for his great love for his family; he took |
| 6 | | great pride in spending time with his grandchildren and being |
| 7 | | involved with their activities; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, James Clingingsmith was preceded in death by his |
| 9 | | parents; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, James Clingingsmith is survived by his wife of 56 |
| 11 | | years, Joan; three sons, James Jr. (Chris) Clingingsmith, |
| 12 | | Michael (Kelly) Clingingsmith, and Patrick Clingingsmith; five |
| 13 | | grandchildren, Katie (Ken) Winkelman, James III (Dana) |
| 14 | | Clingingsmith, Brittany Clingingsmith, Ashley Clingingsmith, |
| 15 | | and Michael Clingingsmith Jr.; three great-grandchildren, |
| 16 | | Emmett, Everett, and Colton; and two sisters, Billie Jean |
| 17 | | (Gary) Pearson and Marylee Thomas; therefore, be it
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
| 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 20 | | James Louis Clingingsmith, and extend our sincere condolences |
| 21 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
| 22 | | it further
