| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Stephen B. "Steve" Luzbetak of Lockport, |
| 4 | | who passed away on January 13, 2017 at the age of 79; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Luzbetak was born in Joliet and was a |
| 6 | | lifelong Joliet-Lockport resident; he graduated from SS. Cyril & |
| 7 | | Methodius Grade School and from Joliet Catholic High School |
| 8 | | as Valedictorian in 1955; he attended Loyola University in |
| 9 | | Chicago, majoring in Political Science and Loyola University |
| 10 | | Law School, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon |
| 11 | | Fraternity; he was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve; |
| 12 | | and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Luzbetak was an active partner with |
| 14 | | Luzbetak and Caneva Law Firm in Lockport, which in 2016, |
| 15 | | celebrated 50 years of practice in Lockport; he started his |
| 16 | | career at Legal Aid in Chicago; he was active in politics, |
| 17 | | having served as Democratic Committeeman and Joliet Township |
| 18 | | Supervisor; he served on the Will County Board for 10 years, |
| 19 | | first from Joliet, then from Lockport, losing by one vote in |
| 20 | | the battle for Chairman of Will County; he ran for Will County |
| 21 | | Recorder of Deeds and Judge of the Circuit Court; and
|
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Luzbetak was a member and past president |
|

| 1 | | of both the Lockport Rotary Club and Lockport Chamber of |
| 2 | | Commerce; he served for 25 years on the Lockport Old Canal Days |
| 3 | | Committee; he also served on the boards of the Will County |
| 4 | | Historical Society, American Cancer Society, and the United |
| 5 | | Way; he was a member of the Will County and State Bar |
| 6 | | Associations; he was the former attorney for Ludwig, Kelvin |
| 7 | | Grove, Fairmont, and Chaney-Monge school districts, the |
| 8 | | Lockport Fire District, the Fire District Foundation, and the |
| 9 | | Channahon Park District; most recently he was the attorney for |
| 10 | | the Lockport Park District; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Luzbetak was a member of the Lockport |
| 12 | | Moose Lodge #1557, Lockport American Legion John Olson Post |
| 13 | | #18; the past president of SS. Cyril and Methodius Parish and |
| 14 | | Holy Name Society; a current member of St. Dennis Church in |
| 15 | | Lockport; he was chairman for the 25th Anniversary of the |
| 16 | | Diocese of Joliet and was on the diocese First Diocesan |
| 17 | | Council; he was an avid golfer and poker player; his greatest |
| 18 | | joy was attending his grandchildren's activities; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Luzbetak was preceded in death by his |
| 20 | | parents, Steve and Anna (Matuszewski) Luzbetak; his first wife, |
| 21 | | Jacqlyn (Rushing) Luzbetak; his sister-in-law, Carol Rushing; |
| 22 | | his brother-in-law, Terry (Sara) Aversa; and a special uncle, |
| 23 | | Michael Matuszewski; and |
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Luzbetak is survived by his wife of 47 |
| 2 | | years, Ann "Betty" (Banas) Luzbetak; his children, Judy (Dave) |
| 3 | | Ward, Mark (Kim Ross) Luzbetak, and Paul Luzbetak; his five |
| 4 | | grandchildren, Andy, Jake, Emma, Anna, and Sadie; his sister, |
| 5 | | Loretta (Pete) Murphy; his brother-in-law George (Barbara) |
| 6 | | Banas; his special aunt, Rita Matuszewski; and many aunts, |
| 7 | | uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
|
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
| 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
| 10 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Stephen B. "Steve" |
| 11 | | Luzbetak, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, |
| 12 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
|
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 14 | | presented to the family of Stephen Luzbetak as an expression of |
| 15 | | our deepest sympathy.
