SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals who have served our country and, in doing so, have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and

WHEREAS, Army Specialist Anthony R. Maddox, 22, of Port Arthur, Texas died on July 22, 2013 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, of injuries that occurred in a noncombat incident during a fueling accident in Andar, Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, Specialist Maddox was assigned to 10th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York and was serving during Operation Enduring Freedom; and

WHEREAS, Specialist Maddox was born on November 15, 1990 to Glenda F. Key and Jerome Maddox Jr.; he graduated from Nederland High School in 2009, where he was a football star for the Bulldogs and whose fearsome field presence earned him the nickname "Mad Dog"; he joined the United States Army in 2011; and

WHEREAS, Specialist Maddox approached everything he did in life with the energy and passion to do his best; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Interstate 55 as it travels from Exit 167 to Exit 171 in the city of Towanda as the "Specialist Anthony R. Maddox Memorial Highway"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving notice of the name "Specialist Anthony R. Maddox Memorial Highway"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the family of Specialist Maddox, Towanda Mayor Tom Wagner, and the Secretary of Transportation.
