HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Newark High
School 
4volleyball team, the Lady Norsemen, on winning the 2018 
5Illinois High School Association Class
1A State Championship; 
6and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The Lady Norsemen defeated Hartsburg High School 
8in the championship game on November 10, 2018 at Redbird Arena 
9in Normal in two sets
by scores of 25-16 and 25-23; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, This historic season marks Newark's first ever 
11state championship win, and the team's 40 and 2
record is the 
12best season record for any sport in the school's history; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, In addition to their athletic successes, the team 
14is devoted to their academic success,
boasting an overall GPA 
15of 3.85; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, The Lady Norsemen are led by Head Coach Tonya 
17Grayson, who has coached at Newark for
18 seasons; the state 
18final game was her 463rd win; the assistant coaches are 
19Samantha Anderson and PJ
McKinney; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, The Lady Norsemen are Evelyn Martin, Kenna Borton,

5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
6HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
7congratulate the Newark High
School volleyball team, the Lady 
8Norsemen, on winning the 2018 Illinois High School Association 
9Class
lA State Championship, and we admire their
dedication and 
10wish them many more years of success; and be it further
