HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Erik Searle for achieving 
4the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank and most coveted 
5honor in Scouting; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Erik Searle is a member of Troop 297, Pathway to 
7Adventure Council; during his scouting years he learned many 
8skills, hiked many miles, mastered safe and responsible 
9shooting skills, fished, cycled, earned the mile swim badge at 
10age 11, camped dozens of nights, and was initiated as a Brother 
11in the Order of the Arrow; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Erik Searle completed his scouting activities 
13while also participating in his church youth group and learning 
14the string bass; he earned a spot in the Symphony Orchestra at 
15his high school and  took four Advanced Placement Classes, 
16earning college credit; he set a fine example for his peers and 
17friends through his leadership, hard work, and commitment; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, An Eagle Scout Service Project is required to be 
19of significant value to the community; for his project, Erik 
20Searle used GPS to create a map of the 3D archery course  for  a 
21not-for-profit archery club in Sycamore; the map is now proudly 
22displayed by the club's front door and distributed on all of

1their brochures; he also led 35 scouts and adult volunteers in 
2the adding and repairing of directional signage throughout the 
3course to improve safety and in the clearing of 12 trees that 
4had fallen due to recent storms; while on crutches due to a 
5knee injury, he completed his project ahead of schedule and 
6under budget; and
  
 
  
7    WHEREAS, Erik Searle attends Purdue University and is 
8studying Computer & Data Sciences; through his dedication and 
9hard work, he has demonstrated that he lives by the principles 
10of the Scout Oath and Law in his daily life; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
12HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13congratulate Erik Searle on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, 
14and we wish him the best in all of his future endeavors; and be 
15it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to Erik Searle as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
