| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Karen Hunter Anderson |
| 4 | | on the occasion of her retirement as the Illinois Community |
| 5 | | College Board (ICCB) Executive Director on November 30, 2018; |
| 6 | | and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson joined the ICCB in 1999 and became |
| 8 | | the first ICCB staff person to be selected for the permanent |
| 9 | | position of Executive Director in 2013; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson has provided leadership and has |
| 11 | | served as an administrator for nearly all of the board's |
| 12 | | functions in the divisions related to workforce, adult |
| 13 | | education, career and technical education, academic affairs, |
| 14 | | student services, minority affairs, education technology, and |
| 15 | | institutional research; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson serves as a commissioner to the |
| 17 | | Midwest Higher Education Compact and as a member of the |
| 18 | | Governor's Cabinet for Children and Youth; she is a founding |
| 19 | | member of the Illinois Longitudinal Data System Governance |
| 20 | | Committee and has recently served as the chair of the National |
| 21 | | Council of State Directors of Community Colleges; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson has received numerous leadership |
| 2 | | awards, including the Illinois Council of Community College |
| 3 | | Administrators 2010 Outstanding Service Award, the Illinois |
| 4 | | Community College Trustees Association 2016 Meritorious |
| 5 | | Service Award, and the Chinese Mutual Aid Association 2017 |
| 6 | | Visionary of the Year Award; under her leadership, the ICCB |
| 7 | | received the College Changes Everything 2017 Champion Award; |
| 8 | | she has also represented the State's community college system |
| 9 | | through her participation in three White House Summits, |
| 10 | | including the White House College Opportunity Day of Action in |
| 11 | | 2016; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Prior to coming to the Illinois Community College |
| 13 | | Board, Dr. Anderson was the principal and president of Ursuline |
| 14 | | Academy in Springfield, provost, registrar, and acting |
| 15 | | president of Springfield College in Illinois, assistant |
| 16 | | professor of English at Millikin University, a trustee of St. |
| 17 | | John's College of Nursing, and a professor and coordinator of |
| 18 | | the Bilingual Business Studies Program at Midway College in |
| 19 | | Kentucky; therefore, be it

| 20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 21 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 22 | | congratulate Dr. Karen Hunter Anderson on her retirement as the |
| 23 | | Illinois Community College Board Executive Director, and we |
| 24 | | wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it |
