HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Rick VanBrooker on the 
4occasion of his retirement as Sheriff of McDonough County; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Sheriff VanBrooker grew up farming and started off 
6working at a grain elevator and a grocery store; he always had 
7an interest in law enforcement and joined the Plymouth Police 
8Department in 1986; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Sheriff VanBrooker has had a 32-year career in law 
10enforcement; he served for 12 years as Sheriff of McDonough 
11County and spent 13 years with the Hancock County Sheriff's 
12Office; he ran for Sheriff of McDonough County in 2005 and has 
13been re-elected to three four-year terms; 2018 will be his last 
14year as Sheriff of McDonough County; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Sheriff VanBrooker often goes above and beyond to 
16help those in need; he has recently been taking an inmate to 
17the Spoon River Outreach Center for a GED testing program; he 
18has also worked with Western Illinois University to offer a GED 
19program through the jail and has instituted a prisoner work 
20program; and
  
 
  
21    WHEREAS,  Sheriff VanBrooker has always felt that being a

1county sheriff should be a working position;  he believes that 
2the sheriff should not be tied to a desk and should be ready at 
3a moment's notice to go into the field for any type of 
4situation; he has demonstrated this belief countless times by 
5being visible and active in his community; therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
7HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
8congratulate Rick VanBrooker on his retirement as Sheriff of 
9McDonough County, and we wish him the best in all his future 
10endeavors; and be it further
  
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to Sheriff VanBrooker as a symbol of our respect and 
13esteem.
