HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, In 1918, 29 dentists specializing in exodontia 
3signed the founding charter of the American
Society of 
4Exodontists, the precursor of the American Association of Oral 
5and Maxillofacial Surgeons, at
the Auditorium Building in 
6Chicago; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Oral and maxillofacial surgeons practice in a 
8variety of settings, including private clinical
practice, 
9ambulatory surgical centers and hospitals, and provide service 
10in academia, the military and in
dental research and industry; 
11and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the surgical arm 
13of dentistry and is defined by the American
Dental Association 
14as the specialty which includes the diagnosis, surgical and 
15adjunctive treatment of
diseases, injuries and defects 
16involving both the functional and esthetic aspects of the hard 
17and soft
tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The American Association of Oral and 
19Maxillofacial Surgeons seeks to assure excellence in
patient 
20care by advancing, promoting and preserving the specialty of 
21oral and maxillofacial surgery, and
the skill and 
22professionalism of its members; and

1    WHEREAS, The American Association of Oral and 
2Maxillofacial Surgeons represents more than 9,000
members 
3across the nation; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, The American Association of Oral and 
5Maxillofacial Surgeons is
headquartered in Rosemont; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The 100th Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions 
7and Exhibition of the American Association
of Oral and 
8Maxillofacial Surgeons will be held October 8-13, 2018 at 
9McCormick Place in Chicago, under the theme of "Safety and 
10Innovation for the Next Century"; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
12HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13congratulate the American Association of Oral and 
14Maxillofacial Surgeons on its l00th
anniversary and on its 
15continued dedication to patient care; and be it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to the American Association of Oral and
Maxillofacial 
18Surgeons as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
