HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives
wish to congratulate Robert Quinlan "Bob" 
4Costas on being chosen
as the 2018 recipient of the Ford C. 
5Frick Award, given annually
by the National Baseball Hall of 
6Fame for excellence in
broadcasting; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The Ford C. Frick Award is the highest honor a

8broadcaster can receive from the National Baseball Hall of 
9Fame; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Bob Costas began his post-college broadcasting 
11career
on the local St. Louis station, KMOX-AM, announcing 
12play-by-play
for the American Basketball Association team the 
13Spirits of St.
Louis; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Bob Costas was hired by NBC in 1980 and joined the

15broadcasting team on the popular baseball show, Game of the

16Week; he went on to announce baseball all-star and
postseason 
17games throughout the 1980s and 1990s, becoming a
respected 
18national broadcaster; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Bob Costas has found success announcing for 
20various
sports, most notably as NBC's prime time Olympics host 
21from 1992 to 2016; he has won numerous broadcasting awards

Emmys and eight  Sportscaster of the Year awards; 
2and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Baseball has always been a constant throughout the 
4career of Bob
Costas; he has been a strong advocate for the 
5game, has
spoken out against steroid use, and has championed a 
6purer and
more unhurried version of the game in his book, Fair 
7Ball: A
Fan's Case for Baseball; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, By his simple love of baseball, Bob Costas has 
9become
the voice that connects numerous fans to the sport they

10love; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
12HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13congratulate
Bob Costas on winning the 2018 Ford C. Frick Award 
14from the
National Baseball Hall of Fame, and we wish him 
15continued
success in all future endeavors; and be it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to Bob Costas as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
