HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize the Thompson Karate 
4Foundation Academy and Dr. Cynthia Thompson; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, The Thompson Karate Foundation Academy was 
6founded in 1991 and offers all students martial arts training 
7as well as after school tutoring and mentoring;  students learn 
8the discipline of the martial arts, travel to local, national 
9and international tournaments and participate in several 
10community service projects that are related to developing 
11self-respect, self-discipline, and academic success; they have 
12two foundations that award college scholarships  and also serve 
13as a court appointed community service organization; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, The Thompson Karate Foundation Academy is  funded 
15completely by Dr. Cynthia Thompson and Master Jean Thigpen; 
16funding covers all student expenses for competitions, assuring 
17that every student will have an opportunity to represent their 
18community world-wide; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, The Thompson Karate Foundation Academy supports 
20the Girls-N-Gi's All Female Martial Arts College Scholarship 
21Tournament, the Girls-N-Gi's Pageant, Kick the Streets Martial 
22Arts, Kick the Streets Mission, educational benefits, Court

1Appointed Community Service Organization Markham Juvenile 
2Probation, community service and mentoring, Kick the Street 
3Martial Arts male scholarships, and the Chicagoland Black Belt 
4Martial Arts Association Organization; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Previously, the Thompson Karate Foundation 
6Academy has supported the Cynthia L. Thompson Academic 
7Scholarship, the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Public 
8Schools "We Care" Role Model Program, the Roseland Community 
9Youth Volunteer, Chicago State University Academic 
10Scholarships, and the University of Illinois Principal's 
11Summer Institute Scholarships; therefore, be it
  
 
  
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
13HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
14recognize the Thompson Karate Foundation Academy and Dr. 
15Cynthia Thompson, and we wish them many more years of success; 
16and be it further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to the Thompson Karate Foundation Academy as a symbol 
19of our respect and esteem.
