| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the students, faculty, | ||||||
| 4 | researchers, and staff of the Orr Agricultural Research Center | ||||||
| 5 | on the occasion of the Center's 40th Anniversary and its | ||||||
| 6 | tradition of providing reliable and beneficial research to | ||||||
| 7 | local communities, the State and the Midwest as a whole; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, In 1972 the Two Rivers Resource Conservation and | ||||||
| 9 | Development Council believed that the region of Western | ||||||
| 10 | Illinois was in need of an agricultural research center; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, After a long process by the Council of advocating | ||||||
| 12 | for an agricultural research center, then Governor Jim Thompson | ||||||
| 13 | approved an appropriation for the creation of the Orr Center in | ||||||
| 14 | 1977; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Ralph Orr sold 278 acres of farm land for the | ||||||
| 16 | creation of the original agricultural research facility; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, In 1990, the Center added a beef research farm to | ||||||
| 18 | its operations; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, the Orr Center represents one of the only | ||||||
| 20 | collaborative agreements between a land grant university and a | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | community college whereby the students and researchers of the | ||||||
| 2 | University of Illinois share the facilities and fields of the | ||||||
| 3 | Orr Center with the students and faculty of the John Wood | ||||||
| 4 | Community College; even working together on research projects; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, During any given year, the facility has up to 50 | ||||||
| 7 | different agronomic and animal science research projects; all | ||||||
| 8 | of which ultimately benefit farmers, agribusinesses, and | ||||||
| 9 | students; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The Orr Agricultural Center has become an | ||||||
| 11 | indispensable asset to the agricultural community of Illinois | ||||||
| 12 | and the Midwest; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 14 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 15 | congratulate the students, faculty, researchers and staff of | ||||||
| 16 | the Orr Agricultural Research Center on the occasion of the | ||||||
| 17 | 40th year anniversary of the Orr Agricultural Research Center | ||||||
| 18 | and its continuing efforts to provide farmers and | ||||||
| 19 | agribusinesses with the most up to date research and data; and | ||||||
| 20 | be it further

| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be sent | ||||||
| 22 | to the director of the Orr Agricultural Research Center as a | ||||||
